Umbo returns after a long time of absence in releasing new music, although it seems he never stopped making music and stayed creative behind the scenes.

Umbo aka Mario Lovakovic is a homie to our roster, and main producer of our mother or main label Timewarp Music, plus he is well known for his funky, breakbeat freestyle blended with soul and super groovy music productions. In this release we have him on board Kraak Records with three gems that where produced many years ago and never saw the light of a release, well yes, until now!

The title track opening the EP, ‘So Different’ is a deep downtempo funk, dub and freestyle burner that will remind you the classic and great old school downtempo with tons of freestyle vibes. The story continues with ‘Balkan Sunrise’, an organic balearic deep house song that has an ethnic flavour from Balkan music and beyond those borders. The EP closes with ‘This is the Way’ that brings it’s mantra vibe deep down from India blended with chill hop aesthetic.

Junodownload Review: An aptly titled EP here from Croatian producer Umbo, because the three featured tracks do indeed evidence a significant degree of stylistic variation. 'So Different' itself is an unhurried affair centering around a dusty funk loop, atop which are placed gently shimmering keys, understated brass and lightly fluttering guitars. 'Balkan Sunrise' rides a livelier backbeat but is otherwise a mellower cut with a distinct Mediterranean feel, while 'This Is The Way' features sonorous, slow-moving hand percussion, a looped female "this is the way it's gonna be" vocal and layers of Middle Eastern/Indian sounds. It all adds up to 19 solid minutes of very pleasant chilled listening indeed.
